Your China Import Partner
Reliable sourcing and import agency services.
I have worked with no less than 100 food export clients, more than half of whom came to us after encountering problems with their self-operated export operations. The most common scenario is that goods arrive at the destination port and are detained during customs clearance, either due to incomplete certifications or ingredients that do not meet local standards.Hundreds of thousands of yuan worth of goods are stranded at the port, generating demurrage fees every day,and in the end the exporter can only abandon the goods.Selecting an agent is not about finding the cheapest one,but finding a partner that can block all potential risks before shipment.
Destination port qualification certification is the first threshold for export

Food export is different from general cargo. The access rules of every country are updated every year.In 2026,the EU updated 17 standards for maximum residue limits of agricultural pesticides,Saudi Arabia updated the SFDA food registration requirements, and the US FDA adjusted the document checklist for food declarations from China.Small agents often use outdated rules from previous years to prepare documents for clients,so they only find non-compliance issues after the goods arrive at the port, when it is too late to make corrections.
Domestically,GACC Decree No.248 mandates that all food production enterprises engaged in export must complete overseas manufacturer registration. Many small and medium-sized factories are unaware of this requirement, fail to complete the registration, and get stuck directly at the domestic port, unable to ship the goods at all.For pre-packaged food, the ingredient list must be verified in advance, and all food additives must meet the access requirements of the destination country.Even if you add one extra additive that is compliant in China but prohibited in the destination country, the entire batch of goods will be returned.
Last year I handled a case for Mr.Luo from Shenzhen, which can be broken down by STAR framework as follows: Situation: Mr.Luo shipped 12 containers of pre-packaged snack foods to Jeddah,Saudi Arabia, and the small agent he hired claimed all documents were complete.Task: The goods were rejected for customs clearance after arrival, due to expired SFDA certification. The goods had been stranded at the port for 7 days, generating nearly 3,000 USD per day in combined demurrage and storage fees.Action: We mobilized our local partner agent in the Middle East to liaise with the SFDA regulatory authority, completed the latest supplementary certification, submitted the compliant component test report, and negotiated with the shipping line to apply for demurrage fee reduction.Result: We completed customs clearance and picked up the goods within 10 days, secured a 50% demurrage fee reduction for Mr.Luo,saving him nearly 120,000 RMB compared to if he had handled the issue on his own.
Anti-dumping early warning and tariff optimization directly affect profit margins
In 2026,global trade rules change frequently.Multiple economies have launched anti-dumping investigations against certain Chinese food categories. The EU imposes anti-dumping duties of up to 45% on some processed citrus products, and the US maintains dual anti-dumping duties on some aquatic products. Many agents do not provide early warning to clients in advance,so clients only learn about the extra tariffs after the goods are shipped, and lose all their originally planned profits.
If the export destination is an RCEP member state,a compliant Certificate of Origin can grant tariff reductions. Many small agents do not actively remind clients, nor help clients verify the rules of origin,so clients pay hundreds of thousands of extra yuan in tariffs without even noticing. Before shipment,we will check the latest tax rates for clients in advance, confirm anti-dumping risks, and help clients apply for the Certificate of Origin directly if tariff optimization is eligible,so that the full preferential benefits are reflected in their profits.
Core risks in export tax rebate and foreign exchange collection
Export tax rebate for food requires compliant documents and matching input VAT invoices. Many factories that handle the process themselves,or work with unprofessional agents, often face rejected tax rebates or delays of 3 to 5 months that tie up their cash flow due to incomplete documents or non-compliant input invoices. Many agents also charge hidden tax rebate service fees, which are not disclosed in advance, and deduct several percentage points from the rebate amount after it is issued, leaving clients no recourse.
In terms of foreign exchange collection, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange has imposed increasingly strict regulations in 2026.Many small agents do not hold formal foreign exchange settlement qualifications, and collect foreign exchange for clients using personal accounts or affiliated accounts.Once their accounts are frozen, clients cannot withdraw their funds. Some agents also fail to conduct foreign exchange loss control for clients, and once the exchange rate fluctuates, hundreds of thousands of yuan in profits vanish.
| Comparison Dimension | Ordinary Small & Medium Agents | Zhongshitong |
|---|---|---|
| Destination Compliance Verification | Only check basic documents,do not update latest rules | Recheck the 2026 latest regulatory requirements of the destination 7 days in advance |
| Anti-dumping / Tariff Early Warning | Do not provide proactively, clients bear all losses if problems arise | Verify tax rates before shipment, handle RCEP Certificate of Origin application |
| Export Tax Rebate Timeline | 3-6 months, revise documents repeatedly for incomplete issues | Complete tax rebate in 15-20 days with full documents, sort out input compliance in advance |
| Foreign Exchange Collection Risk Control | Mostly use affiliated personal accounts,no foreign exchange loss control | Settlement with formal SAFE qualification, provide forward exchange settlement solutions to reduce foreign exchange loss |
| Transparency of Fees | Acquire clients with low quotes, many hidden fees | List all fees in the quotation,no extra hidden charges |
You must avoid these risks when selecting a food export agent
- Unqualified agents collect foreign exchange via affiliated accounts, which carries extremely high SAFE compliance risks, and easily leads to frozen accounts and inability to withdraw payment for goods. Many small agents do not hold foreign trade agency and foreign exchange settlement qualifications, and use affiliated accounts for fund transfer, which is essentially an illegal operation.
- Hidden cost traps: Many agents attract clients with low quotes, and later charge extra amendment fees, inspection fees, and tax rebate service fees. These fees are not written into the contract in advance, and prices are increased at final settlement, leaving clients no choice but to accept the extra costs.
- Failure to update destination regulatory rules, and declaring with outdated certification documents leads to detained customs clearance and high demurrage fees. Many small agents do not have a local collaboration network across the world, and can only wait for clients to solve problems on their own after issues occur.
Our headquarters is located in Shanghai International Trade Center,we have over 20 years of experience in food export, with cross-port declaration capabilities across all ports in China. We have a mature global collaborative agent network. No matter which domestic port you ship from, and no matter which country you export to,we will help you eliminate all compliance risks in advance, instead of leaving problems to be resolved after the goods arrive at the port.Choosing an agent is not about chasing the lowest price, but about getting the ability to resolve issues quickly when problems arise, and block risks before they even occur. That is the core value of a professional food export agent.
